The embassy is located smack-dab in the middle of downtown Montreal. It was relatively easy to find, although there are no big signs or flags or anything. The enterance is around the corner, off the main street it's on.
Everyone there was very nice, including the security guards. We arrived at 7:30, and were among the very first people inside. We were the first couple interviewed for CR-1 that day.
At about 8am we were taken up in the elevator, and after getting our number and showing our appointment letter, we sat and waited until about 8:30. Then we went up to window 10, and handed over our number, all of my information and my passport. We then sat again.
At about 9am, we were called up again, and went in to room 7. The woman behind the glass asked us a few questions, like where my husband and I met, when we got married, and if I'd ever had trouble with immigration/customs or the law. Then she said everything was in order and that I could come back at 2:30 the next day to get my visa. I was given a little yellow card that said immigrant visa with my last name, the date and the time I could come back.
We came back right at 2:30 and there was no line. Upstairs was pretty much deserted. We didn't have to line up or anything, just walked right up to window 12 where I was given a big envelope that was taped shut that I was to give to the CBP when crossing the boarder, and my passport with my temporary green card in it.
The lady said my permanent card should arrive in a few weeks.
