Here is my fiance's interview in her words. Overall everyone was nice at the consulate. The only problem she had was the guards outside when she went to her first appointment and they put her in the wrong line and therefore made her miss her appointment. They tried to do it again today but this time she was wise to their ignorance.
Vera's words:
I got to the embassy at 6:45am, went straight to the immigrant queue, got there but was told by a guard to go to another queue (the non-immigrant queue), I asked him if he was sure, he said he was. I told him we'll both die at the embassy today if I missed my appointment again like I did the last time, then went to the other queue, however, on my way there, I asked another guard if that was the right queue for immigrant applicants, he responded in the negative and asked me to go back to where I was before. I went back there and the assole guard opened the gate to let me in.
I got there and we were asked to bring out our appointment letters and passport. I did that and was given an invoice to make payment for my visa fee, a blue IV card and a slip to fill.
At about some mins before 8, we were ushered into a building in the consulate premises, while there, the lady asked for my passport, medical and police reports, affidavit of sponsorship, birth certificate and asked me to wait. While there, the ladies there asked me what I had in my red travel bag, they thought I had the intention to travel somewhere after my interview, I laughed and told them the bag contained the evidence I needed to prove my relationship with my fiance. They were impressed and smiled saying they hadn't seen anyone with such a huge bag for the interview. I said I was ready for anything they needed. I said it was better to have a lot of evidence than not to have a lot, lol.
Some mins past 8, we were ushered into another building inside the consulate.
While I waited for my turn, some applicants entertained me with answers while being interviewed.
Eventually at about 10:30am, my number was called by a pretty consulate lady. She had my forms in front of her, asked me to swear to say the truth, nothing but the truth.. bla bla.
I swore, she took my finger prints, then the interview began. Questions asked:
Where did u meet ur fiance: I smiled and said 'I met him on myspace'.
Who contacted who first, I smiled and told her u contacted me first.
She asked me if u had been here, I said yes 3 times.
She asked if u had travelled to other places. I said Yes, U were in the military in the air force, u worked as a computer programmer, and lived in the Philippines among other places.
She asked me if u had been married. I said yes, twice. She asked if I knew where ur wife was from. I said Yes, a Filipino. She said 'oh he met her while stationed there', I said 'Yes'.
She asked me if I knew she were married when u contacted me. I said Yes, but u were separated.
She asked if I knew when your divorce was final. I said September 08.
She asked what u did for a living. I said u were a computer programmer at ManTech Corporation.
She asked when we would be married. I smiled and said as soon as I got there.
She asked me if I worked, I said No, I had to stop working so I could concentrate on getting the medicals and other things I needed for the journey.
She asked me if I had evidence of letters etc. I bent down and brought out a huge bag and landed it in front of her with a thud, lol. I showed her our letters, she looked at all our phone records, from the beginning to the end. I went with 3 big albums. She looked at 1 album that contained our introduction pictures. And said 'Was this ur introduction?' I said 'yes'. She saw u with my mum and asked if she was my mum I confirmed her assumption.
She looked at all the pictures. I offered her the 2nd album , but she smiled and said it was enough.
She went away, then came back and said I should come collect my Visa on the the 15th of June. I thanked her and asked her if it was possible for me to collect the Visa next week so I could be there for my fiance's birthday. But she said No, cos they had a lot of Visas to make or whatever, plus she had to get the package i needed to travel to the US with and that all that took a while. I thanked her and left with a huge smile on my face.
Total time spent on the interview = 3mins or less.
On my way out, I danced and gave some of the guards some 'dash', lol.
----------------------------------
Lessoned learned from Vera's interview: Be confident and bring plenty of evidence. In the 3 trips I took there I think we took over 500 pictures! Take a lot of pictures when you visit your fiance. Overwhelm the consualte officials the pics, emails and phone records. Answer the questions they ask with confidence and be prepared to answer ANY question about your SO. Vera noticed the people who did not get approved could not answer the questions that were asked or they hesitated when answering.
Vera will arrive on June 18th! Yaaaaay!!!
