Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our interview time was 1015 in Irving. This office apparently opened in January. Seemed nice and clean, had heard that the last one wasn't so much. We got there about 45 minutes early. We were told we could come in and wait, even though they weren't supposed to let us in more than 30 minutes early. The huge waiting room was very full. We gave our paper to the lady at the desk and got one of those restaurant buzzers. We waited, VERY anxiously, until about an hour after our appointment time, 1115. We went up to the desk, and a young man came out and got us, and walked us to his office. He told us to make ourselves comfortable, and explained how the interview would go: first, confirm that all the info we submitted was correct, and second, that we were elligible to adjust status.

He asked us both a few questions about where we were from and stuff like that. He read from our submitted paperwork, and did a lot of check-marking. He told us that the I-130 was all fine, no problems there. He then asked us a few questions about the affidavits we had. He then asked if we had any pictures (of course we did, we were proud of those ) He looked through them all, commented on many of them, talked about places he'd been in Texas, stuff like that. He then told us that we were obviously a happily married couple and that he would go ahead and approve us.

He went over when we should receive everything, and how we would have to apply for removal of conditions in a couple of years. He seemed slightly uncomfortable when we both started crying. We thanked him profusely, shook his hand, and left. Was all we could do to not cry hysterically in front of that waiting room full of people.

All in all it was MUCH less painful than we thought it would be. The hardest part about everything was all the waiting.
