Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband had his interview on May 21..scheduled at 8:00 am. He arrived on time and got in the line for immigrant visas. He said he was happy to be in that line as the visit visa line was really long. He was number 3 in line behind a family with 4 children, and the second in line was a woman.

The first thing they did was take his cell phone...which was expected, then told them to sit in the big waiting room. The people for visit visas came in next but were seated in a different area.

The family with 4 children were called to the window..he said they took an hour there (his sense of time I think was a bit off...he was nervous and could only think about smoking). He said the single woman was called up next and she took maybe 25 minutes there....then he was called next and they asked for...I think his appointment letter and original birth certificate. Actually, he had to remind her about the birth certificate..and also asked for his passport photos and his passport.

He was then told to go back in the room and turn left, but he misunderstood her, even though she spoke to him in Arabic..again nervous and no smoking lol. He asked the security guard, who showed him where to go.

Once he got into the second room, they were just calling the family of 6..again, he said they took an hour after they were called back. He said when they came out they were sitting near him and the father seemed mad but didn't say anything. Then the single woman was called back..and AGAIN, she was there for 25 minutes (he still hasn't smoked) and when she came out she had her passport (not a good sign apparantly) and a really mad look on her face.

Then he noticed that everyone was looking at him...and couldn't figure out why...until he realized...he is the only one there with "too many documents". Everyone else just had a few papers...he had a 3 ring binder (with a Texas flag on the cover ) and his x-rays and medical forms and and and....

He was called next..and took all his papers to where they told him (he said a room..) There was a woman with white hair (he said it may have been gray, but he couldn't tell because he hadn't smoked) and a guy standing behind her. The man and woman were talking and talking and my husband kept waiting patiently for them (as patiently as one can...without smoking )

Then the woman told him...put your fingers on that machine to have finger stamp. He didn't understand her at first, so she repeated it...and he finally got it.

She started asking him questions then:
1. What is your wife's name? He gave my full name
2. When did you get married? June 7, 200...oh 7 (his words...lol)
3. How did you meet your wife? In a chat room, she gave him what he called "wonder face"...he told her...it was in a Catholic chat room on myspace and we talked in there.

She was typing all this information as he gave it...

Then she asked to look at our marriage contract and said...your wife is older than you by 15 years...and then asked...what do you like about your wife?
He answered her...

She then asked why I have not gone to Jordan to see him in 2 years since I am a travel agent (why do people think we travel free????) He explained that I have a teenage daughter that I cannot leave. He told her...her daughter just turned 18 last year so she needed her mother....she seemed satisfied with this answer.

And from all the papers, documents and forms he took with him...she only asked to see one thing...photos. We had no wedding photos...in fact...we only have 3 pictures together. She asked him to slide them under the window and she looked at all of them for a long time. There was one...she asked him...you look so happy in this picture. He said yes, but I am not now. She asked "Why??"...he said...no wife

As soon as he said that...she turned around and did...soemthing with a green ticket..then turned back to him and said...Congratulations! He looked at her with a really mad face (he misunderstood lolol) and she said again...Congratulations, you will go to your wife now. He stood up, took a deep breath, gathered all his things and walked off LOLOLOL

He went out to the ARAMEX window, gave them 5JD and his cell phone number. They told him...we will call you in 5-10 days to pick up your passport and visa. He asked for his cell phone back...went outside and called me YELLING soooooooo happy

Everyone at the embassy was very nice and helpful. Even though he kept saying everyone was taking one hour, and 25 minutes, then an hour again...his appointment was at 8:00 am...he was out of there by 10:30 am...and SMOKED..lol
