Dont want to replicate everything that everyone else has written, so will try to keep it short. I made my way down from Bond Street Tube station, which is a very short walk. If you need to drop phones off, key fobs etc which you cant take into the embassy- you can drop them in at Goulds Pharmacy on North Audley St which you pass on the way. I had a 9 am interview, but started queueing outside at 7.45am and was in the building for 8am, so my advice is to get there early. I was 5th in line (ticket 5005) and was seen by 8.50am, a very pleasant guy took some of my documents, took fingerprints and photos.( it helps if all your documents are easy to hand or in a nice folder, so there is no faffing around). I then jumped to the next window to pay the fee (£91) then sat down for about an hour or so and waited for my number to be called again and spent the time like the other 100 people there staring intently at the big screens. i took a book to pass the time but i kept thinking id heard my number called..so didnt get through much. Eventually it was called and i went to booth 16 - this was the "interview" part, where I was asked a few questions and the officer had a quick look at my documents. Was asked where my fiancee works, where we got engaged, when i last saw her, date of wedding, how we met, square root of 187 ( ok i made that one up) - nothing taxing at all really. Then the officer said my application was all in order, we will run a check of your fingerprints but assuming nothing comes up, youll have your visa in the next few days. Congratulations to you and your fiancee. and that was it..10 mins and it was over. I went to the desk and paid for the mailing out of my passport in 3-5 days ( approx £25) and i made my way back north with a huge smile on my face! Overall, I didnt enjoy the sitting around, but the whole process was easy enough and I found the officers to be very pleasant and helpful.
