Review Topic: K1 Visa

Upon arrival we were told to wait near the entrance of the consular section (which is essentially a double wide trailer), and at 9:30 were allowed in. You will to through security and walk to the back of the building to a small waiting area with about 15 chairs. While waiting for the paperwork check you’ll watch a video which shows Florida, New York, DC and Philadelphia.

You will then be called to meet a nice woman who will take your documents and file everything accordingly. She will then have you wait for your interview. Total wait time - about 90 minutes.

There were 3 other K visa interviews before us. Each flew by in 2 minutes, but ours was a doozie!!!

I had been introduced to my fiancée through a Russian-American couple via their Ukrainian friends. 3 of the 4 people involved were immigrants and 1 of them had a slightly checkered past with immigration. THANK GOD I went with my fiancée or else she would have been denied based on probable cause. If there's one tidbit of wisdom - PLEASE GO WITH YOUR FIANCEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT COULD BE VIEWED AS PROBLEMATIC IN YOUR PAST. It will make the process much easier. The craziest part of the entire sequence was that the consular fellow was interviewing ME not my fiancée! I was grilled for 15 minutes while she answered 2 or 3 questions. I was asked where I worked, my address, how I knew the people who introduced me. I was asked about the title to my house and a ticket for an expired registration on my car. I was asked how many times I went to Ukraine, and if I was financing the trips. Essentially, if there's one thing to tip the consular section off, they will grill you incessantly to ensure you're telling the truth. I was, so, all went well. Just a warning that not every interview is a cakewalk like most of the reviews on here.

We celebrated the positive adjudication at a cafe with 300g of Hortiza Platinum Vodka and a lot of smiles and memories. Good luck to all!
