Review Topic: K1 Visa

Kinda weird experience. Got through all the usual security checks (felt like I was boarding a plane!) - and there were loads more people there than i had anticipated. Took a number and sat down. I got a little concerned because I had a ticket in the "immigrant visa" queue, but half my paperwork said "non-immigrant visa". I made two trips back to the lady issuing the tickets to confirm this was correct, and both times she smiled and said yes it was ok. So I trusted her

Waited for about an hour and ten minutes before I was called for the first stage. Just gave my documents over and that was fairly formal. Was then told to sit down and wait for the interview itself. I was given a form to fill out for the courier service at the end.

It seemed (according to the screen) there were about 55 people in front of my in the queue. Not entirely sure how it works, but barely two minutes later, I was called. I was chatting to a guy next to me and we were both a bit startled by this, but I went to the window anyway.

No mistake - it was me... the interview lasted no more than two or three minutes, got asked a couple of questions about where we met and when we first met irl, she thumbed through my paperwork and said "yep, you're done"

Both officials that I had contact with were friendly and smiling. Very helpful and seemed human. Sounds odd, but a lot of people go with the impression they're emotionless robots just there to give you a hard time. Not the case at all!

Tip... keep a close eye on your number and listen to be called. There's an automated voice which tells people which window to go to (ie. "customer 99 to window 3 please") but if they do a manual announcement, sometimes the automatic voice gets silenced, so you have to keep an eye on the screen too! Someone else also posted that tip, but I wanted to emphasise that fact
