Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
I sent packet 3 back on the 27th January, on the 2nd February I sent them an email asking if they had received my packet 3 and if they had set me an interview date. They replied to my email within the hour saying that yes they had packet 3 and they had sent out packet 4 that day and my interview was on 10th February at 8.45am. I freaked as I still hadn't had my medical
I left Glen Eden at 7.30 thinking I would have plenty of time as my appointment was at 8.45am. As it turned out at 8.47 I was sitting outside the consulate on the wrong side of the road stuck in traffic, thank goodness my daughter was with me so I jumped out of the car and she drove it away to park it.
The security guard was very nice, asked to see my passport and took my cell phone and put it in a locker, giving me a yellow card with my locker number on it. He advised me to go to window 3.
When I got inside there already was a couple at window 3 and a few other people sitting around, so I sat and waited.
A nice young man sitting near me asked if I was there for my K1 visa and what my appointment time was, it turns out he was there for his also and his appointment was at 9.00am.
When the couple at the window left he told me to jump up and push the bell which I promptly did (I wasn't sure if I should wait to be called or not)
The woman at window 3 was a kiwi, I was terrified and thought she seemed a bit serious and business like (I know that sound ridiculous but everyone else had said everybody was lovely and I was still feeling terrified)
Anyway, she started going through my paperwork, birth certs, marriage and divorce documentation etc.
She then asked me if Rob was working and obviously I said no he was on disability and that he didn't have any tax returns but that he had sent me 3 years worth of income verification from the disability people (sorry, still don't know what their official name is though I have no doubt I will learn it quick enough) I was really nervous about that as I had read that people had been declined because the USC was on disability, but she seemed fine with that, she did ask for my resume and took all the papers and asked me to take a seat again.
By this time the waiting room was packed but I managed to get a seat on the other side of the room.
After a wait of approx 45 minutes I heard my name called to window 5.
There was a very lovely young bloned woman (she barely looked older than my 19yo daughter). She went through all the paperwork again, chatting with me about wedding plans, and my children.
She asked when we planned to get married and I said asap as I wanted my work permit. As she went through the forms and got to the disability income forms she made a comment about me being the main breadwinner and I replied yes and that's why i wanted my work permit asap.
They still hadn't received my police clearance (haha) or my medical but she said that they would send out my passport with my visa in it sometime in the next 5-6 days. I was being a bit thick and wanted to hear the words "yes you have been approved" so I actually asked her and she laughed and said yes.
She did comment on how impressed she was on how organised I had been, bringing the phone and email logs, I even had to ask her if she wanted his second letter of intent. She said some people turn up with no evidence of a relationship
I thanked her and left and by the time I got back out to the security guard to claim my cell phone I was shaking.
I rang Rob as I was heading down in the lift to give him the good news and I managed not to cry
The interview was extremely painless and I can't believe the amount of time I spent worrying about all of it, including what I was going to wear and how I was going to look, the reality is those little windows they conduct the interview through don't allow them to see more than your chest up.
