A stressful day - not helped by it being a week or so after 2 sets of terrorist disruptions in London.
A reasonably well organised set-up at the Embassy. I was early for my 9am appointment so scooted straight in. However, after taking my ticket I still had an hour's wait for the initial paperwork check (always worrisome). This was not made any easier by a typically Brit uncommunicative member of the Embassy clerical staff.
After that and after becoming mesmerised by the screen counting down my next window visit, I had a quick snack from the Embassy snack bar (perfectly adequate but a little dear). Called through for my formal interview at about 12.20pm and a very amiable American gent went through a few cursory questions about the papers (I can't recall what he aksed in all the excitement. He then welcomed me to the USA (slightly dramatic I thought, but quaintly colonial), told me about arranging for the delivery of the Visa and hey presto by 12.40pm I was having a ciggie outside the Embassy!!!
