My husband and I came in for our AOS interview to permanent resident based on marriage. We arrived about 10 minutes before the scheduled time which in my opinion was a bit too late but it ended up being fine. We ended up parking in a metered spot on the street in front of the office as the parking lot in front of the building charges $5 for parking. It was just as well as we were only there for about 35 mins total.
When we walked in, after they briefly searched us we turned in our invite letter to the officer at the window and took a seat. My (applicant) name was called right at our scheduled time. We were called in to talk to the officer separately. An officer that called my name walked me to his office in the back where I took the oath to tell the truth. He asked for my passport and state Id (drivers license). He then went through the I-485 application I mailed to USCIS asking me my name, my address, date of birth, a series of NO questions (have you ever been arrested, have you been deported etc.)
He then asked me how I came to the US. what made me come to Indiana (it is hillarious how often people ask this in general. I wonder if people in NY get the same thing? ). He then asked me how I met my husband, weather we started dating right away, when and where did we meet again after our initial meeting. He asked weather we ever broke up, when did I meet his parents, how often do we see them, did he ever meet my parents and how. He asked briefly about our trips taken together, when did we get married and were we ever engaged. He asked me some basic questions about my home country and what my husband thought of it after I told him that we had traveled there for Christmas this year.
That was pretty much it. He didn't look at any photos or anything. The whole interview lasted less than 10 minutes. He then said we will call my husband in to talk to him and if his answers matched mine, he would approve us and that we can expect to receive the green card in the mail within 30 days.
As I left his office I called my husband to come in. I waited on him for about 10 mins. When he came back he said that the officer told him that this was a pretty simple case and that we were approved. My husband said that he asked him how we met, weather we ever broke up, where we got married, who was there and weather his parents were upset that they didn't come to the wedding. It seemed like a very conversationalist kind of interview.
Overall, the meeting was punctual, brief but professional and pleasant. The officer did not take my I-94 nor did he give me anything. They just took my letter for the appointment.
After a pretty challenging process of gathering all the necessary paperwork this seemed to have been the easy part.
