Review Topic: K1 Visa

My lady, her son & I arrived early for a 9:30 appointment, but ended up outside in a cold rainy line, unable to find the magical place where US citizens received preferential treatment. After entry into the building we went to the designated room where a lady finally called for our documents through a glass window where we slid the documents through as requested. All our careful organization was for naught as the lady called for documents in no particular order relative to the KEV-1 checklist. Since I am semi-retired and had business losses on my last tax return I was using assets to meet my requirements. I had 3" of paperwork on this point, but a single account statement was all this lady ended up wanting. We waited again for an hour or so before being called to the rear of the room where a man was stationed behind another glass partition. He had no questions, but did ask me to affirm that my I-134 was true and correct before telling us our visa would be sent and that we should go to the Federal Express window. Our interview was on a Thursday and the visa left Kiev by the FedEx subcontractor the following Tuesday, arriving in Kharkov the next day. All in all, a relatively tolerable procedure. Random thoughts: Have all your paperwork ready; this was not an interview so much as it was a document review. And to all the Americans: Try to go to the interview if you possibly can; it will be a worthwhile investment in your future and will mean a lot to your lady, as well as reduce the chance for problems of any sort.
