Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Arrived at 8am outside the embassy and joined the queue. We started to file in through the security checks at about 7.40. Lots of people who hadn't heard the warnings about no electronic equipment had to go and take their mobiles etc elsewhere first. I took my numbered sticker and sat down in the waiting room in front of the bank of screens showing you which numbers they are working on. (It really is a bit like Argos). The applications were split into different categories - immigrant, non-immigrant etc. There were only 11 immigrant visas being processed while I was there but hundreds of non-immigrant ones. After sitting for about 40 minutes I was called to window 13 where the guy looked through the paperwork in my file and took my fingerprints. Then I went to sit back down and wait for the second interview. That happened about 90 minutes later. A very charming American man did the second interview - he asked me a few questions about my job and my husband's job and what I thought of the town my husband lives near in the US. He asked me what was the longest time I had spent in the US and how I met my husband. Then that was about it and he said "I'm going to approve your visa" - take the slip to the courier desk. It was a little bit of an anti-climax after the long wait!
