We arrived at the consulate; were cleared by security on level 10, then sent up to Level 59 where we took a ticket and waited for our number to be called.
The first guy we met with (it was a bit like being at the bank), just wanted to check we had brought in the information that the consulate had requested (receipt of payment, return pre paid postage bag, passport, 2xUS size passport photos and original birth certs).
Then we were told to wait while he processed the information, then we were sent to have my fingerprints done…. All up this took about 30 minutes.
Then we waited for our “interview”. Again, another bank teller situation. He didn’t look at any of our “proof of on-going relationship” , basically he just wanted to check that we knew that we had 6 months to leave Australia but only 90 days to get married once we enter the USA).
He then signed a form, told us the visa had been approved and said that I would receive the visa in the mail along with sealed information to present at US customs upon arrival.
As I plan on flying into LAX then to JFK he told us to allow at least 5-6 hours at the LAX customs. Lucky I hadn’t booked my ticket yet!
