I had my Adjustment of Status interview on 11-04-08 (Election day) at 10:00 a.m.
My husband and I arrived in New Orleans at about 9:10 am and stayed in the car in the parking lot adjacent to CIS building until about 9:30 a.m.
Once we got inside the building, we went to the third floor. We pass through the security check (my husband's belt buckle set off the alarm). The officer then asked us if we had an interview. After saying 'yes' asked us to place it in the drop box window and then have a seat.
We took a seat amongst the some 100 people that were in the waiting room. At about 10:10 am, we were called. We were immediately asked to raise our right hands and were sworn in. Here are the questions asked/ things asked for:
1) Husband and wife's ID
2) Husband and daughter's birth certificate
3) Joint Bank Account
4) Husband job letter to show he is still employed (His letter was dated April 2008)
5) My proof that I lived at my present address (I gave utility bill)
6) If I graduated college (I was an F-1 student)
7) If I worked after OPT (No of course. I knew better)
8) If I left the country after I filed the AS (No)
9) 3 questions from the Form 1-485 (If I was ever arrested, asked to leave the country or ever committed a crime) - these questions were asked after I gave my ID.
After the questions/request for documents, the CIS officer advised that since we have a child together, everything is fine and that I would get my green card in the mail in a few weeks. The interview lasted about 5 minutes.
Then my husband, without warning, asked if she wanted to see our photo album. Her response, "I have a few minutes anyway." Then she asked where we got married and commented that our daughter is beautiful.
Why he offered the album I don't know, because I was ready to leave
Very simple. The key is to stay relaxed and have all the supporting documents organized.
All the best!
