Hi Everyone,
I am so sad to hear that some of you have been having really bad experiences at Casablanca. Simo had his interview today (October 15, 2008) and he actually had a very positive experience overall. Interview scheduled for 9am, he arrived at 8:30, went in and waited. He didn't actually get called until 11am, but he said that it was kind of like a 'bank teller' situation, in that you just go stand in front of a window and talk -- he said that you could hear other people as well. So he had time to hear a lot of people go in front of him and get used to the questions. He said that one guy in front of him had a bad experience, the lady was mean to him and wouldn't tell him how long he might have to wait.

But, overall, his went well. So, here is what happened, the lady (who had previously been mean to another person) called him, and just said Hi, do you speak English, he said, "Of course" (he does speak English really well). He said that makes a difference -- he thought that most of the other K-1 people didn't speak English very well, and that's why they were mean to them.

So, she asked him:
How we met (he told her the long version of the story, we met back in 2004)
When had I come to visit (many times, but he had the dates memorized)
If he had ever been outside Morocco -- he said yes to Norway, and she was really interested, so he had to recount the whole story, of having a friend and the Norwegian embassy, etc) then she was really interested, and they talked about him having gone to Egypt and South Africa as well with the National Volleyball team...

So then she asked what I did when I came back to Morocco last year (I had lived there for a year + on a Fulbright grant, so he responded)

Where did I live when I was in Morocco? He said that we rented a house together (not quite technically true, but she didn't say anything about that)

What was I doing now? He answered about me being in graduate school.

And that was it! We had lots of evidence, a nice book I had made, and letter of financial support, but she said no, she didn't need any of that (I am so upset after all the time I spent on the book!) So we actually didn't get any financial questions at all.

Then she said, "Do you want to keep your passport or should I take it" and he said whatever you want -- she said she would keep it, and "it wouldn't be long".

He said he did get a paper that said they are required by law to do more Administrative Processing, but I haven't seen the paper yet, he said he would scan it in...but he hasn't yet.

I think that is all there was to it, so we are staying positive and hoping she was right, that it won't take long.

I hope that helps those of you waiting!
