Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

* Medical checkup *
Called up the hospital 2 days before checkup and took the appointment.

-Documents required
Passport, interview Appointment letter, two-passport size photo
-Fees will be around Rs.2000 + the insulin cost

Reached the hospital at 9:00 am

The attendant gave a form to be filled and then directed to complete following tests
- Weight and blood pressure checkup
- Blood test
- Eyesight test
- X-Ray of chest
- Final checkup by senior doctor and vaccines are given if required

The test was completed till 11:00 am and I collected the report at 3:00 pm


* Document submission at VFS (10 to 7 working days before interview) *
I reached the VFS at 8 am.
Waited out side to get the token.
Went in after security check and submitted the documents to VFS officer
List of documents submitted.
-Passport photocopies of recent and expired passport.
-2 passport size photos
-Completed DS230 Form (do not sign part 2 of the form)
-Birth certificate (original and translation)
-Marriage certificate (original and translation)
-Police report from Passport office
-Police report from local police station
-Medical report (not the X-Ray of chest)
-I 864 Affidavit of support
Note: Be careful while submitting documents as its your responsibility that every thing
should be present, should be in order, correctly filled and complete, VFS will just accept the documents to forward it to consulate.

* Before the interview *
-Take a transparent carry bags for all proof documents, photo albums, etc.
-Arrange all the proofs in order
-Be ready with Demand draft of 400$ in Indian rupees and confirm the latest fees a day or 2 before your interview
-Carry the X-Ray with you to the interview
-Don’t forget to go through the documents and interview questions a day before interview
-Have a nice sleep at night, as on the day of your interview you may need to wait long
before your name is called

* Interview *
Reached Mumbai consulate at 7:00AM
Went inside at 7:30AM
Fingerprints taken at 8:00AM
Waited from 8:00AM till 9:45AM, at 9:45AM my name was called.
Reached to window, Indian officer returned all the originals submitted at VFS (birth
certificate, marriage certificate). Asked about family and marriage, like how many people attended the marriage, do you had traditional religious marriage, have you submitted the religious marriage certificate.
In which language you would like your interview?
And at last, She said please be seated you will be called for the interview.

At 10:15AM name called again.
Went inside,
Waited...
Told to take the oath by raising right hand.
Told to sign the DS230 part 2 forms.
Started with questions
-Tell me the history of your relationship
-When did she came India
-When did you got married
-When did she left?
-Who all came from US for the marriage?
-What her brother does, father do, sister do.
-What your father do.
-What you do
-Asked for photo's after marriage
And at the last said...
Your visa is approved and will arrive in 2 days.
