I arrived just after 8:00am and joined the line outside the embassy. When I was inspected by security whilst standing in the line I was sent to the front on the basis my appointment time was 8:30am. Make sure security knows you are a K-1 applicant so you don't arrive late or get wet standing in the rain.
After going through security you enter the main building. (Remember not to take bags or luggage with you.) You show your paperwork in the reception area. It is then a short walk to the elevators. The visa processing department is on the floor above. You take a left and go to the booths where K-1 visas are dealt with. A local employee took my paperwork from me. He asked a few questions, but I think he was just making small talk. He gave me a leaflet about domestic violence. Don't ignore the leaflet. It was a very I interesting read.
After an hour I got a telephone call telling me to go to a window and speak with one of the consular officers for my interview. The interview was very short. He asked about wedding plans, the last time my fiancée and I had met in person and whether I had submitted a police check for all countries I had lived in for more than six months. He then said the visa was approved.
Don't forget to take a picture of The Thames whilst you are waiting for your interview and the embassy garden as you are leaving.
