The US Consulate staff are great! The interview was a breeze, I was there for about 1 1/2 hours, but it was mostly waiting. The first lady came and got everything she needed from me, gave me some stuff back that she no longer needed, got the envelope (make sure you buy a big one as they need to fit the envelope we have to present at POE in there) and told me I could go for a coffee if I wanted to, my interview with the immigration officer would be about 20 minutes later. Oh, she also gave me a copy of my vaccination records to take to the US in case I they ask for it come AOS time. The immigration officer didn't see me waiting so I ended up waiting about 30 minutes or so. She was really nice, and just talked to me while she went through all the paperwork. There weren't really that many questions. I think it took about 10 minutes, at the end of which she told me that they would process the visa the next day (Friday) unless there were any problems and it would be in the post on the Monday.

Notes: When you first come in, they may not hear when you ring the bell, so take a seat in front of the window and relax, they will see you when they go by and will come for you. If it takes too long ring it again.

There's a Post shop and a coffee place on the ground floor of the building.

If you are considering taking a train, Brittomart station is about 1 block away.

Parking: I parked on Beach St as I was staying nearby, on a parking lot on the corner with Te Taou Crescent. It was $7 for the whole day (earlybird). It is a 10 minute walk from there to the consulate.
