My interview was at 7:15. Reached the consulate by 6:15. There's a waiting area across the consulate where there are a couple of benches to sit on.
They let us in at 6:45 and we were told to make a line outside the consulate. One for immigrants and other for non immigrants. There was a wait for another 20-25 mins before they let us in.
Keep your interview letter and passport in hand.
There's a room for security, similar to the one in the airport. Lockers are available while you enter the consulate so you can get your phones if you want. There won't be any delay near the lockers.
A big official wedding album is allowed. A lot of people in the group told that they're not allowed but they are.
Once you enter, there is a big hall with 15 counters. You'll be given a token at counter 1 and they tell you to wait till your number pops up on the screen.
Indian officer:
1) Who's calling you?
2) Is this your first marriage?
3) Is this your husband's first marriage?
-He then took my original documents (passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate, PCC, DS-260 confirmation page with the stamp). Asked if I had the recent tax transcript and told me to keep it in hand in case the American officer asks for it.
4) Did you ever visit the US?
5) Did you stay longer than 6 months in the US?
6) Did you stay in any other country for more than 6 months?
-Then he gave me a domestic violence sheet and told me to wait for the American officer.
There was a 1 hour 20 min wait for the American officer.
American officer:
Greeted her and took an oath.
1)Who's calling you?
2)What does your husband do?
3)Where does he live?
4)Does he live alone?
5)How and when did he immigrate to the USA?
6)How did you both meet?
7) Where do his parents live?
8) How many times did he visit you before and after the wedding?
9) Did you visit the US? How long did you stay?
10) Did you visit any other countries? How long did you stay there?
-She granted my visa and gave me an approval sheet. Interview took 5 mins.
-Told my visa will be ready within a week.
-She didn't ask me for any documents, call logs, chat logs or photos.
I exited the consulate at around 10:15.
-The officers and the security staff and really cheerful and helpful. Don't be too anxious about the interview. They want to grant you a visa, so don't be scared if your case is genuine. Just be honest and it will go well.
-Smile at the officer while talking if you can and memorize all the necessary dates.
-The American officer won't ask a lot of questions unless they see something suspicious in the documents you already submitted. I've seen people who's interview lasted for less than 5 mins and their visa was granted.
-Keep your documents organized in a clear accordion folder.
-You can get a water bottle and daily meds with you.
-There is a small cafeteria where you can buy snacks.
