For my 09:30 interview appointment at the US consulate in Frankfurt, I arrived early, at 07:30. There was a line and had to wait about 30 minutes until it was my turn at the first window. I had to hand over my passport and was given a service number. My husband was with me and also he had to show his passport. They wished me good luck with the interview.
Security check went smooth. I had a bag with the paperwork me, got asked if there were no laptops and/or phones inside my back.
Inside the main building, I was asked to sit in front of windows 15-23 (immigrant visas). After about 30 minutes my number was on the screen, it was my turn for the check-in. I handed over my (original) birth certificate, police clearance and marriage certificate, and 1 recently taken photograph. They asked me if I already had done the medical exam. I confirmed, and then they saw it on the screen. Fingerprints of both hands were taken. The consular officer was very friendly.
I was asked to take a seat until it was my turn for the interview. There were only 2 windows open for the interviews, with 2 consular officers conducting the interviews. I was very nervous but had my husband with me, that was a big comfort. There were a lot of nervous wrecks waiting for their interview!
I had to wait another hour until it was my turn.
Fingerprints of my right hand were taken, only the fingers, not the thumb.
I took the oath, had to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth.
The questions: "When did you got married?" "Where did you guys meet?" "Is it your first marriage?" And for my husband: "Is it your first marriage?" Which it wasn't. He was asked for the date of divorce.
We both were asked about our jobs, what we do for a living. My husband (who is the sponsor) was asked for his Dutch annual income (since he lives in The Netherlands for already 6,5 years, his US income is $0).
And we were asked where we were going to live once moving back to the USA.
I was asked if I had any children.
The Consular Officer was very cordial with us. He was typing a lot.
Then he said: "Your visa is approved". And asked me if I had any more questions. Told me that the passport would be send to my home address in The Netherlands within one week.
We thanked him and were outside the consulate premises at 10:30. It took us 3 hours. But all went super smooth and everyone was treating us friendly.
