Long Family

arrived at the Consulate at about 5:30am. As others have stated, there's no need to get there earlier. Yes, there were a ton of people in front of us, but they don't call you on a first come, first served basis. We entered the Consulate at about 6:40. We then sat down and waited on the very elegant, comfortable metal benches until about 8:00, when they called us to look over our paperwork at Window 17. He asked my wife for her cedula, my stepson and wife for their passport, as well as the results of the medical exam. Then....back to those damned benches!! Did I mention that both of our asses are killing us?? Then, at about 8:45, they called us to Window 13 to take my wife's fingerprints. And then...yep, you guessed it, back to the frickin' benches!! At about 9:40 they called us to Window 19 for our interview. We were greeted by a very nice, young balding guy. He swore us in and then the questions began (in English):
1. When did I visit the D.R. for the first time?
2. Did I meet my wife during that visit?
3. How and when did we meet?
4. How many times have I visited her?
5. Did you know you were in love from the moment you met for the first time?
6. Where did we get married?
7. Did any of my family attend the wedding?
8. What does my family think of her?
9. Do we have any photos? That's a big wedding cake. Is it real?? hahaha
10. Do I have any kids?
11. Who do I live with?
12. Where does my family live?
13. Where does my stepson's dad live?
14. Have I met him?
15. Has my stepson lived with him ever?
16. Did my wife ever live with him?
17. How did I learn Spanish?
18. Why I became a Spanish teacher?
19. What does my wife do for a living?
20. Do I send her money?
He then asked my wife (in English):
21. Have you ever been to the United States?
22. Where did you learn English?
23. How many children do you have?
24. What is your due date?
25. Did you marry the father of your son?
26. Did you apply for a tourist visa last year?
He then congratulated us and asked me when I would be leaving the D.R. and gave us information on the paperwork that will be arriving and a green slip to pay DOMEX.
It seemed like a lot of questions but from the very beginning he made comments like "You're a really good looking couple" and joked about how many times I had visited, giving us the impression that we had nothing to worry about.
Then, we said good bye to the benches and were on our way to the hotel around 10:00. Everybody at the Consulate was very kind and professional. Our one complaint is that, because it was a CR case, my 2 1/2 year old stepson had to join us. Yeah, that's quite a task standing in a line that doesn't move for an 1 1/2 hours with a toddler (even though they let us enter first because my wife is pregnant and he was with us), and then waiting around in a stuffy room even longer. He, obviously, didn't understand what was going on and there was truly no reason for him to have to suffer through it.
