First - showing up early is okay - the Embassy website is wrong about them enforcing a 15 minute pre-arrival time. There is a long line of people who wait in a waiting area South of the main entrance lines, and they start calling interview times long before the scheduled interview.
My finance and K2 daughters were scheduled for 8:30am. We arrived by Grab at 6:15am. By 6:45am their appointment time was called and they got into the main lines. It took about 45minutes to get through these outside lines and enter the Embassy proper. I, the petitioner, waited and watched every step of the way till they walked inside.
Here is how my finance has described the internal interview process, keep in mind this was just her experience and you should always be prepared. We 100% believe in “it’s better to have than to have not”.
Screening (first stop):The PH consulate checked the DS-160, Passports, Birth records, and kept the CENOMAR, NBI, and asked for nothing else. She was a little nervous and needed the nice lady to repeat her question one time. Apologized for being a little nervous since she’s never been through anything like it before. The lady was very kind and just repeated and continued on asking questions for about 3 minutes. All good, next step.
Finger printing: this took about an hour in the lines and a few seconds each once we they were at the counter. Next step.
US interview. Consulate asked questions about petitioner, (name, dob, single/ever married, work, visits to PH, meeting date/place, latest in person (we live in BGC together) and asked the K2 girls how old they are. That was it, it last about 5 minutes. No documents or add’l evidence requested. Visa approved and on they went.
They entered the Embassy at approx 7:30am, 1 hour before the scheduled time. They walked out at approx 10am. So all in all they spent most of the time in lines waiting and it went over without a single hiccup.
I waited outside so they could see me when they came out and because my finance wore some very uncomfortable dress heels. I went to get an ice coffee at the Coffee Bean & Leaf just over the pass way adjacent to the Embassy and had initially planned to meet them back there. But…between her shoes and not wanting them to miss out on having their person waiting for them, I gladly stood there striking up conversations with other people waiting.
It was one of the best days we have had together as a family, and we’re all super excited to return to the USA together.
