Tokyo, Japan | Review on March 29, 2023: | kurumu
Rating: | Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
We came from outside of Tokyo had an 8:30 am interview, ended up staying in a hotel within walking distance to the Embassy. This was great because we didn't need to worry about getting lost in the trains, and could wake up at a decent hour.
waiting in the embassy was a bit uncomfortable because they have very few chairs compared to how many people were inside. They had turnstiles set up, but no on was in line because we all had numbers.
We were really worried because we saw a few people all get denied by the same interviewer. And of course that was the person we got.
Interview questions were actually pretty easy:
When / How did you meet your husband?
"Tell me about your relationship." (They wanted to know the whole history, how long we dated, marriage, etc.)
Where will you live in the US?
Why do you want to go to the US?
Do you have previous marriage? Do you have kids?
Where did you live before this?
Have you ever been denied a visa?
Did you return to your home country? (My wife is not Japanese, but we are both living in Japan)
They were a bit strict on the last question, and wanted a new police clearance from my wife's home country. The old one should technically be valid because she has never returned, but they wanted to be sure.
Luckily we actually had a newer clearance in our file just in case. The officer had actually already begun typing our denial letter, and erased it once we gave the new clearance.
They said everything looks good, and we should get the visa in a week.
