Revision: 2* because they mistakenly sent the passport to our home in Austria. We had to take 8 hr train ride each way to get passport in time for flight 1 week after interview. We never paid for shipment nor registered with courier. Sehr stressig!
We arrived at 7:35, later than we planned for the 8:00 appt. This seemed to be just before the peak crowd. It took about 30 minutes to get to the 1st window, with the prior mentioned unfriendly woman. I had written the consulate the prior week to seek permission to accompany my applicant wife, granted. The woman grudgingly let me enter. Handy phones ARE allowed (they are powered off and left at security); I wish we knew as we had troubles with transportation. Someone had a smart watch they couldn't manage to turn off and had to leave. A woman had a big bottle of perfume and other things, but they kept those at security and allowed her in. The next window took about 15 minutes, then 5-10 for the document screening window.
Here they gave us a crisis. They asked for the original court divorce doc, which we didn't have. The summary doc we uploaded and NVC had no complaints. We faced the prospect of getting a certified copy by going across Germany and then FedEx. They didn't ask for any petitioner docs.
Fortunately the interviewed decided we didn't need it and granted the visa. We have a flight 7 days after this, which the interviewer wanted to understand our rush. She felt confident that we could get the passport 2 days later or possibly the following Monday. We were out at 9:30.
Now my wife can finally see our home in Puerto Rico after almost 2 years away! I really appreciate the help I found in this site-thanks all!
