Montreal, Canada | Review on July 10, 2022: | I DO! USA
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
I had my 7:30am appointment. I grabbed a coffee at Second Cup and from the seat at the front of the coffee shop I could actually see if anyone was lined up. This area in Montreal so early can be a little sketchy still...so be careful! I ended up lining up outside around 7:00am. We lined up in order of time...7:30am first and the person behind me had their appointment at 7:45am.
About 7:35am a security agent came out and asked when my appointment was, I said 7:30am so he took me in. They asked for my passport immediately (so have that handy!) they checked for my name (cause you aren't getting upstairs without an appointment!) After they verified my name they put a sticker on the back of my passport and handed me 2 tickets (ie. I 634) that would appear on the televisions upstairs when they were ready for me.
Took my jacket off and placed my docs and cell phone through the x-ray. Then I powered down my cell and placed it in the small lockers. Entered the elevator and pressed #2. Waited until I saw my number on the screen. Which was about 10-15 mins. I went up to the booth that the TV said, #6 and a clerk took my documents, fingerprints, etc. She created a physical file for me and basically collected everything in the order they want to prepare it for the interview.
You will be standing for this process, as well as the interview. Any contact you have with a person upstairs is through what I bet is bullet proof glass. Not a covid thing. They talk to you through a mic, not very private but everyone is there for the same reason!
After the clerk collected everything I was asked to take a seat and I waited another 5-7 mins or so. Then I saw my number on the screen again, this time with a different booth #. I couldn't figure out where booth #5 though but it was around the corner!! (#1-5 are around the corner!) This area was a little more private and this was the interview.
The only document I really felt they looked at very closely was the Affidavit of Support. The interviewer was just looking at my eyes very deeply and body movements. It seemed he cared more about how I was reacting rather than what I was saying. I didn't give him any new info than had been in the original filing so I feel his main task was just to detect fraud.
The interview was done and then I was told I would be recommended for approval. They kept my passport. I was walking out the doors about an hour after I arrived. The next day I received a Canada Post notification with my tracking number. They issued my visa and it was on the way! Also I checked the ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status website and it updated saying Visa ISSUED.
It was an overall good experience. The only downside in my opinion is that they don't process K1 anywhere BUT Montreal. Huge headache and financial burden to travel for interview and the medical exam.
Anyways THANKS to every that posts here. I felt more prepared and encourage during this LONG wait. Best luck. God bless.
