My interview was on June 6 2022 at 08:30am. We arrived in Montreal the previous day and located the place ahead of time. On the day of interview, we arrived 15min early and waited on the sidewalk until the guards asked for the folks with 08:30 appointments. I only brought my phone and documents inside a leather case. They checked my passport to verify my identity and affixed a sticker on the passport and gave me two tickets with the same number. Then I was asked to put all my stuff in a plastic container and go through the metal detection machine (airport style).
I was then instructed to put my phone in a small locker then went to the second floor tand wait for my number to be called.
I waited around 35min and then was called to the first booth to provide my civil documents:
- my birth certificate
- police records
- marriage certificate
- one passport photo (I had an electronic application)
I was asked for my husband s phone number and they confirmed his address. They also asked if we ever had kids or been married before.
I lost the original police certificate that was uploaded to the NVC so I gave the officer a new one and they were fine with this.
They also took my fingerprints and said that they received my medical.
Then I was told to read the domestic abuse and human trafficking pamphlet and to go back to my seat. I waited another 30 min to be called to the second booth for the actual interview.
The process took less than 15min. I was asked:
- when, where and how I met my husband
- did we decide to date right away
- when we got engaged and married
- if my spouse owned a property
- my longest stay, since I was on F1 student before they wanted to know if I was there as a visitor and not as a student
- what I did for a living and if I can keep my current job when I move to the US
Then he let me know that I passed the interview and congratulated me. The officer was polite but he spoke rather quickly. He gave me a sheet to track my passport and that's it.
