I was lucky enough to have an appointment at their opening time of 7:30 AM, so I joined the line of folks waiting outside at about 7:10 AM, and the consulate opened its doors to start screening at 7:15 AM. The security staff ensured that only those with a 7:30 appointment went in first.
Security was straight-forward, no electronics and no metal through a metal detector, then pick up your stuff on the other side. From there up to floor 2 to wait in a waiting room. I waited about 10 minutes before being called to provide the original documents they wanted (my birth certificate, passport, criminal record check and our original marriage certificate, as well as to scan one of my photos). None of the copies I made were needed, and my spouse's birth certificate copy was not asked for.
I waited about another 15 minutes to be called back to the window and to answer a few questions about our marriage: who was my sponsor, when did we meet, where did we meet, when did we start dating, when was the wedding, and what we each did for work. I was then told I'd need a AOD, which I was expecting and provided for him. He reviewed it, and then said he'd recommend my visa be approved and handed me a document about how to check the status of my visa.
From the moment I entered the doors until I walked back out was roughly an hour, and the pace of folks being called seemed to be pretty quick and steady. Overall a good experience.
