I had my interview at the U.S embassy in London yesterday and wanted to write a review for anyone who has an upcoming interview.
My appointment was at 10am and I got to the embassy for 9:45am. As I approached the embassy, I saw a very long queue going out of the door, I was about to join this queue until I asked a very helpful lady in front of me what the queue was for, she told me that the queue was for US citizens only and directed me to the right place. I walked a little further and saw a lady stood at a desk, I gave her my passport and DS260. She stuck a ticket number on my DS260 and told me to go through security. Before going through security, I was asked to unlock my phone and open any app on my phone.
As noted in previous reviews, the security is like airport-style security. Your bag goes through a scanner and you walk through detectors. I had a bottle of perfume in my bag which was over 30ml and had to throw this away I also had a bottle of water and was asked to open this and take a sip . Once I was done with the security, I was told that I would see another queue forming and to skip this queue. I skipped the queue and walked right to the desk (this felt very uncomfortable :D ). The man at the desk checked me into my appointment and told me to go to the first floor and make 2 lefts.
When I got to the right place, I took a seat and waited for my ticket number to be called out. Once it was called out, I approached a desk where I was asked for: - DS260 confirmation page
- Passport
- Birth certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Police certificate.
The man at the desk also asked me when I got married and if I had legally used my husbands surname. I was then given a sheet about domestic abuse and asked to take a seat and wait for my ticket number to be called out again.
Once my number was called again, I approached the desk and was met with a very lovely American CO. He asked me to raise my right hand and take an oath swearing to tell the truth. He then asked me the following questions:
- When did you meet your husband?
- Where did you meet your husband?
- When do you plan on moving to the states?
And just like that, it was over! He told me I was approved for a green card and would receive my passport within the next 2 weeks. I had taken a huge binder of information (including the I864 and supporting financial documents) which were never asked to be looked at. The entire process was over in 30 minutes. It was an overall very pleasant experience and every staff member/CO were extremely polite and friendly.
