We arrived at 800A for an 845A appt...they wouldn't let us in until 830A!!!
We entered through a separate building, detached from the embassy itself, and went through metal detector and other screening. They took my wife's lipstick (in a metal container) and my camera and gave us a ticket to pick them up on the way out.
We entered the Embassy and went all the way down the hallway on the right. We went to the glass cages where there was a young man behind one and a young lady behind the second. The man beckoned us to the glass window. We gave him all of the documents that were required and he was extremely polite and smiled and talked through the process. He placed everything in a select order. We were then instructed to go back down the hall to the cashier's window and pay the $100 (in USD) fee for the Visa.
We returned to the man and gave him our "paid receipt" which he then attached to the file. He asked us to be seated.
While we waited, we observed 2 other single ladies go through the same process.
After about 20 minutes, my then fiancee's name was called by a well-dressed, blond haired gentlemen who appeared in his late 20's. He was behind the glass cages. He beckoned my fiancee to go to the end of the hall and step behind a temporary wall / room divider. Since this was not in a private room, I could hear eveything that was transpiring throughout her conversation.
First he asked her if she wished to conduct the interview in Russian, Ukrainian or English language. She selected Russian.
He then asked her basically 3 simple questions ....
1) He clearly observed that I was with my fiancee so...
"Is that gentlemen who was seated with you your fiancee?"
Response: YES
2) "How many times has he been to Kiev?"
Response: 2 TIMES
3) "When did you meet?"
Response: January 2004
Then he said, "Congratulations! You have your Visa! You can now go the the cafe to celebrate!"
He then took my fiancee's fingerprints.
She was then instructed to go down the hallway to another room to pay 40 Hryvnia for the next-day FedEx delivery of her Passport with the Visa inserted inside. She then returned to the glass cages with the copy of her paid receipt and we went on our merry way to celebrate (like the man said)!!!
I sincerely believe that my fiancees interview process was easier and less painfull because I was personally there for the interview itself. She was fully prepared to answer every question known to mankind but this became unnecessary due to my presence!
