Friendly stuff, but long waiting times.
I scheduled my interview for the 24th January 2022 for 8:30 am. I pretty much arrived 45 minutes earlier, but noticed the already long waiting line in front of the embassy. The arrival is pretty easy, nothing you can actually do. You can see 2 waiting lines ( 1 for visa applicants and 1 for citizens). Take your time, patience is the key till you reach the first counter to validate your confirmation of a visa appointment. The person asks for your passport and your visa appointment confirmation.
Afterwards you get everything back with a piece of paper, it also indicates your code to call you out. It also directs you where you have to go first inside the embassy (counter 22, specifically for paying or getting your case moving so you can actually get called out). Counter 22 validates your payment and your visa interview, by forwarding your case folder to the next counter. You pretty much take your seat and wait for your callout.
The next counter is after your callout. Its pretty much for validating your documents and in case you are missing any to give. Your entire case gets validated by checking your name, the name of the petitioner, your address and your phone number. The lady explained to me what is happening today and how the entire visa situation continues. Like, getting to know the decision today by the consular officer and with an interview before. How the packages is going to look like and what to do after the marriage. Afterwards you have to take a seat again and wait for the callout of the consular officer.
In my case I had to wait almost 3 hours to get called out. It takes time and depends of the day and I guess which visa interviews get done. Usually all the K1 Visa interviews are pretty much done in 10-15 minutes.
The interview itself can be done in English or German, the Consular Officer asks which language preference you have. Before everything begins you start the entire interview with an oath, for telling the truth and nothing else than the truth. You confirm your identity afterwards, by checking the name, your face and your fingerprints and the actual interview starts.
Its a basic conversation, questions and answer game.
My questions were specifically for my case:
- How is our story, when did it start?
- Where was I going to the United States to meet up my fiance?
- Was she traveing to my country as well?
- Any wedding plans? What is planned so far, which location and date?
- Did I ever have different names?
- Have I lived in different countries?
- Have I been married before or she?
- Children?
- Have I been in the military?
After finishing I received the decision of the Consolar Officer and the instructions how the embassy is moving forward.
To summarize, the staff is very friendly and helpful, just in my case the waiting times were way too long.
Disclaimer: You can bring your phone on you. I forgot to mention that you go through security check, before entering the Embassy. The counter before the actual security check is asking if you have any electronic devices. You can bring your phone in, but you have to turn it off in front of the Officer and leave it in your pockets. Just as of today (24th January 2022) you can bring a phone on you.
