Total time from initial submission to interview 8 months 26 days.
NVC Notification Nov28. Transferred to London Dec7.
Interview date letter Dec 14 for a Jan 11 interview.
Struggled to get medical scheduled on Dec 22 which was the latest date the medical folks said we could do. Wife landed in the USA for Xmas on 13 Dec and literally turned around and flew back to London for medical. Not complaining, we just expected it to take longer and weren't expecting interview until late Feb. Clearly, we were quite happy to get an early date.
Entry to embassy was same as described by others. Efficient, friendly, streamlined process as described in other posts. Our supporting document file was 600 plus pages long in a 4 inch binder. My spouse was asked for the interview letter, police forms, Ds-260 confirmation, birth certificate, divorce decrees from previous marriage for both of us. Not too long after that, she was called to a window for interview. Some friendly chit chat with a kind officer about how we met, where we got married, when my spouse planned to travel (as soon as passport is in hand).
total time from standing in line outside to exiting the embassy 1+53. 20 people in front of me when arrived at embassy 1+15 ahead of interview time. Time spent in the interview was 15 minutes. I want to emphasize that our relationship was extensively documented with NVC with financials, shared property, health insurance, wills, deeds, photos dating back as far as 38 years, travel records showing 45 trips between the US and UK in 2 years. I think it's very important to really spend the time to document anything you can about your relationship and submit to remove any doubt. Even though it's unlikely you will be asked for most of it it seems, officials clearly had looked at the extensive files because one or two passing notes in the brief conversation were extracted from the supplemental information.
In my opinion, It is critical to to follow the instructions perfectly. It's important to follow all the links. Read everything from every link you receive and make a checklist. We had many, many hours consumed to build our package and the files we took to the embassy. Honestly, it was way overkill but my spouse woke up on interview day, knew we had done everything as thorough as possible, and if something was asked for we didn't have, it was because we simply didn't know. I think it was very stress relieving for my spouse to walk into the embassy not wondering if we did a thorough job of preparation.
My spouse was told her application was approved and asked for the passport. Was told it could be up to 2 weeks before receiving passport. We opted for pickup at DHL rather than delivery.
