After waiting over 2 years for our K1 Interview we finally had our interview!!! We were so excited and nervous and anxious to say the least! We arrived at the US Embassy in Cairo at 6:40am and stood in line (to the left) until 8:10 when a kind woman came out and asked all the K1 Visa applicants to come in, I was with my fiancé and brought my covid vaccine card and my negative PCR test, they still would not let me go in with him. He was so upset for this, he almost cancelled the interview. The kind woman in the blue shirt promised to help me if I needed anything while he was inside. Finally he went inside. For the first 3 hours I was able to stand on the Embassy side of the street, then a very rude woman came out and yelled at me that I needed to go across the street. I explained that the other woman said I could stand here. She stated "she doesn't know what she is doing and I needed to get off the property. I was very surprised how rudely I was treated by my own Embassy! There was no place to sit. After waiting for 4 hours, my fiancé came out to give me an update. He said the first woman he had to turn his paperwork into was Egyptian and very rude to him. He turned in our Religious Marriage Contract ( In Egypt you cannot go anywhere with a man unless you have this marriage contract) it is not legal, only for his religious beliefs. The woman demanded to know why we did not continue our marriage legally in Egypt, he explained to her that we had filed for the K1 visa and we would have to start all over. Then she asked how many times I have traveled to Egypt to see him and he answered "8 times including today and that I was outside waiting for him". To which she responded, "I don't care that she is here, I didn't ask that". He kindly responded, well you asked how many times she has come to Egypt. Then he was asked to wait again. Next was his digital fingerprints. Then more waiting for the interview.
He was called to window 15 the woman was American and very nice. She introduced herself and asked if he would like the interview in English or Arabic, he told her Arabic. She knew some Arabic, but the interview was conducted in mostly English (He understands and speaks English well too, he is just self conscious about it). She asked if I had been married before, how many children I have, and where I lived. He offered even more information and she said, no its ok, you are doing great! She looked through our 100 photographs and all my plane tickets and evidence and was very happy. Then another person came over with the Supplemental Questionnaire for Visa Applicants. She said I am sorry but you will also need to answer all these questions. Then the interview was finished, she didn't say congratulations she just handed him back his passport. When he came outside he had this paper and the kind woman in the blue shirt explained that it is still congratulations, only delayed. She instructed us to email in the answers and also to have him get a family registration and send it in through Aramex.
And at the time of his interview a tall man came across the street and introduced himself as "the supervisor of the police" and told me I was not allowed to use my phone. I told him 1. I am not on your property 2. I am texting my children in America and my family since I have been waiting for almost 7 hours in the street. He said he believed I was taking notes on his police officers, I told him what notes would I take they have stood there and done nothing for 7 hours! I will be filing a complaint with the Department of State after all our stuff is processed. I was very disappointed in this whole process and how we have been treated in this last 2 and half years!!! I am an American Citizen and I am allowed to marry who I please. I am a Nurse Practitioner and have worked hard all my life and my fiancé is a wonderful man who has never had any issues with anything. He has also worked hard all his life and they are treating us horribly, at the same time hundreds of people are pouring over the south border everyday illegally and we have paid for the K1 visa and the Adjustment of Status almost 2 1/2 years ago and they just hold our money and make us jump through all these extra hoops! Its so disheartening, I am ashamed of our Countries Immigration policies and processes!!! Now I understand why so many people come illegally, its almost impossible to do it the right way and when you do they treat you awful!!!
That night we completed the extensive questionnaire and emailed it to the Embassy. I left for home 2 days later, he went to the city and retrieved his family registration and mailed it to the Embassy through Aramex, unfortunately it was Veteran's Day and they were not open. On the next Sunday they opened and received the package. Online our status still says: Refused, but under it states if your application is held for administrative processing, it will stay in the Refused status until they complete their investigation. We are eagerly awaiting an answer!
