I am the USC, I went with my SO and was present for the entire process, just showed my passport along with all the embassy appointment papers and they let me in with no problems. The actual interview/process was about 10 minutes max, with a few basic question, the rest was just waiting for them to call your number. After the second part of the interview they said the petition was approved upon results of the fingerprint check(?)and we got the visa 3 days later via courier.
Also, since I was in the UK (and had been for months before the I-129 approval)my Aff. Of Support was not notarized...I was nervous about this (as I would have prefered that everything was COMPLETE)but I was able to sign the Aff. of Support in front of the Consular (as it states you can/should do in the instructions, if you are not in the US) and there were no problems with this at all. This saved us a load of money as notaries in the UK are very expensive! So if anyone else out there is worried about this particular stitch...here is my 2cents.
CHEERS!
