Montreal, Canada | Review on October 19, 2021: | GeoffS
Rating: | Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
A couple of points that were not mentioned in previous reviews.
- My interview was on October 4th at 9:45 AM. One of the consular officers described that day as the first day of the "Surge". I counted about 25 people in the room that morning as opposed to some of the previous reviews of 3 people.
- The security officer asked if I had been out of Canada for the last 14 days - I told the truth and said the US - I did not want to lie to this officer even though it seems like the security is a private company from Montreal and not a consular officer. He followed up by asking if I was following the rules, which I was so you can travel from the US very close to the interview.
- Someone was not allowed in with a messenger bag - as previous reviews mentioned, just bring all your files organized in a Binder or folder.
-The officer asked for my wife's updated 1040, and not her W2.
-My security clearance from the RCMP was just more than 1 year old - I had panicked about this and got another one that did not come in time but it was not an issue. My recommendation is that if your police clearance is 11 months old - get another one so you will never have any issues.
-Bring all original documents that you uploaded to the CEAC website such as your birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.
-My suggestion is to walk by the building the day before so you're familiar with the area. The consulate is attached to an RBC bank, and without a line of people, one would get confused without knowing the area.
-My appt was at 945, but I was not called in till about 1045, and I was in the building for maybe an hour and 10 minutes.
-The last appt of the day is 945 AM.
-As previous people mentioned, there is no point in showing up before your time slot.
-Expect follow-up questions to your answers about the relationship etc.
The officers were helpful and informative throughout the whole process. The officer mentioned he intends to approve my Visa- The appt was on October 4th, and I had the passport in my hand in the afternoon of Tuesday, October 12th. Pay the 225 fee online with your registration # and case # before you go to the border.
