Hong Kong, China | Review on June 4, 2021: | 2monkeys
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
My appointment was at 8:30 AM. I arrived at the gate around 8 AM but I wasn't allowed to enter till my appointment time. Many people had advised me to arrive early due to the security check but I think you only need to be there 5-10 mins before your appointment time.
The security guard asked to see 1) the appointment confirmation letter (in my case, it was a copy of the email from the consulate), 2) HK ID/Passport, and 3) DS-160 confirmation page.
After passing the security check, I went to the 2nd floor and waited 10 minutes till a HK lady called my name. She asked to see my HK visa (I'm a South Korean national) and reviewed my docs one by one. I didn't have the original copies of Form 1-964 and related supporting documents but she said they only need original copies of the police certificates. This part took around 10-15 minutes and then I was instructed to wait again.
There was only one other person waiting in the room but I was called first for the interview with a male CO. He was very nice and asked me basic questions:
1) Why are you applying for the visa in HK, not in Korea?
2) How did you meet your fiance?
3) Have you met each other's family?
4) When was the last time you met him?
5) What is your wedding plan? Will your family attend the wedding in the US?
The CO told me that my visa is approved and will be issued & delivered within the next 7-10 days.
The whole process took about 1 hour. Everyone at the HK consulate was nice and helpful.
