Review Topic: K1 Visa

I would like to share our K1 Visa experience with all of you since I know it helps to hear what others go through.

We arrived in Juarez on a Monday night and stayed at the Hampton Inn (very nice hotel for Jaurez and I HIGHLY reccomend)which is about 15 minutes from the consulate. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the consulate, so there was no need to pay for taxis. If you do need a taxi though, it's only $10USD.

On Tuesday Morning, we went at 7AM to the medical clinic. My mexican fiance went inside and I waited in a area on the side of the building in over 100 degrees for 4 1/2 hrs for him to come out. Inside, they asked him for his appointment letter, mexican passport and money for the physical. They took his blood, took an exray, gave him an exam, and checked his eyes, nose, throat, etc. They also asked him questions about his sexual past, tatoos, medical conditions, etc. He finally finished and we met up to go Banamex. The Banamex we went to was not too crowed and we were in/out within 15 minutes. After Banamex, we had lunch and headed back to the medical clinic to pick up the results at 2pm. At 2pm, they call all the hundreds of people in room and call each name to hand them their results. You get a sealted black plastic envelope and white piece of paper to bring with you to the consulate for your appointment. They also give you a large envelope with xrays you can keep.

The next morning, I stayed at the hotel and my fiance headed to the consulate at 7am. They form a lot of lines in the front of the building, so be sure to let the guard know you are there for an open appointment at 8am. He was called in around 830m and had to show his appointment letter, passport and give his bank receipt- and was given a number. After 45 minutes, they called his number and requested his documents. The officer told him what documents she needed, one by one. We had an overabundance of paperwork which they hardly took from us. After she took his document she sent him to get his fingerprints where he waited for 24 minutes. After the fingerprinting, they told him to listen carefully for his name b/c at this point they call names, not numbers. He was also sent to another building for this part. He finally heard his name after 45 minutes and headed to the window with a nice American officer waiting to interview him. They asked him where we met, how me met, where he will live in the US, when he was divorced, what he did for work, etc. It didnt take long and then the officer said "congratualtions," you can have your visa. He had to wait about 2hrs for them to make the visa and then he was all done and back at the hotel by 2:30pm with visa in hand. They also give you a manilla envelope with all your papars that you CANNOT open. This has to be presented to the officer at immigration when you arrive in the US. SO DONT OPEN IT.

I hope this helps, and I wish you all the best.

Overall, this is was a pretty good experience in Juarez for us, although all the waiting is horrible and the city is absolutely horrific- but it's all worth in the end.

The best advice I can give, is to stay at a nice hotel rather than one of those motels near the consulate!!!
