Hubby had his interview today. He has gotten a provisional approval (pending someone in the US giving final approval due to our case being unique).
Hubby got to the embassy 15mins prior to his 10am appointment. Approached security and showed them his appointment confirmation email, which they signed and waved him through. Through security screening and walked into the main building and saw reception who checked the email appointment and gave him a number. He then went up the stairs and to the visa unit and waited for his number to be called (20minutes). When his number was called he spoke to the first guy who took all paperwork. He took his birth certificate, police certificate and marriage certificate and any financial support documents (he provided our social security statements as we were exempt from the I-864). He then went back to the cashier to pay the fee. He then waited again for the interview officer. He then met with the interviewer, which mostly consisted of reviewing our circumstances. He reviewed medical, did we surrender our last green card accurately, and he asked hubby an open ended question since we had lived in the US together for 11 years before moving to the UK last May. He was curious as to our reasons for coming over here and wanting to go back.
Interviewer was happy with all documents and reasoning, however, he admitted the only glitch in providing us an immediate approval today was that they had no guidance for our type of situation. Hubby was given a provisional approval pending having someone from the US DOS signing off on our visa. The reason for this is because we are not required to file the i-864 due to hubby having earned 40 credit quarters for social security in the US. They were unsure how to complete the approval because of this. He advised they have to email the US DOS to get them to sign off on the approval since the I-864W is no longer available to use and the DS5540 is currently suspended.
Total time from start to finish was about an hour and a half. Total time speaking to someone was about 20 mins. You can take your mobile phone in with you, you just have to show that it works (open an application to prove this).
