I had my interview at the London, Embassy at 9am on 30/09/2020.
I arrived in London via London Euston on the 29th and stayed at the Travel Lodge Vauxhall which is only a 10 minute walk away from the embassy. I found this out when Google Maps told me it was twenty minutes and I ended up turning up to the interview five minutes early! I figured they'd let me in but they still turned me away, I waited five minutes then I came up once again. I was asked for my DS-260 and passport, they wrote on it and then allowed me through to the security. It was airport security style, took off my belt and my coat, the scanner beeped, turns out it was nothing. I was then sent through a door (Which btw, was hard to open. I'm not a weak person by any standards, but you do need to push on it a bit harder than normal doors, I didn't realize this and I thought it was locked lol)
You then go into a nice little walkway surrounded with gardens before properly entering the embassy, a woman took my DS-260 again and put a sticker on it with my number. I then went through the lifts to Level 1, the receptionist on this level almost instructed me to the wrong part of the building. When I arrived in the immigrant services area, there was literally no one aside one man who was already conversing in the booth with one of the employees. About fifteen minutes later I was called to the booth, I provided my birth certificate, passport, police certificate, marriage certificate and that was it. The claims that London is a soft embassy was true! No asks for anything in my massive pack of financial documents, which I was happy with as I struggled with it at NVC lol.
I then sat down and waited about thirty minutes to be called for my interview. It seemed to be a somewhat busy day, there were a lot of people and I didn't know that when others were having their interview, they were just called to one of the booths in the room (sort of like when youre getting a brand new adult passport in the UK, if you ever went through that) and everyone could hear your life story, two people went ahead of me to the booth for the interview and they were done in quite almost four minutes flat. When I got called I was told to input my fingerprints into a scanner and raise my right hand and swear I was telling the truth. I was then asked one question "How did your spouse meet" which then we had a conversation about, I was then asked when did we decide to get married and I answered. Then I was told my visa would be approved. The woman was really lovely and nice and I was in quite a good mood despite my nervousness (probably cause I was about to find out if I was going to live with my wife forever!) so that probably helped. They said my visa would be in my hands in one to three weeks. Woohoo! The entire interview portion was about five minutes long for me. I spent most of my time in the embassy waiting. I had left by 9:50.
Onto the next part of my visajourney!
