Hi Guys, I just attended my interview this morning and got approved, this journal is finally close to an end.
Just want to share some useful information here in case you are in the same situation as me, which was a little tricky with the affidavit support.
Everything else went well other than two things : (explained in the later content)
- The Affidavit Support he provided and,
- His US domicile prove
Interview duration: around 2 hours ( waiting around1.5 hours)
Questions asked :
- Where is your husband now?
- How long has he been living in Hong Kong?
- Is this the first marriage for both of you?
- Do you have kids together?
- Have you been into the US before?
- What does your husband do?
- What do you do?
- When did you get married?
- Do you have a dog? ( I think the CO was just being tricky cause I have 2 cats)
- When do you plan to move to the US?
The domicile problem:
The CO told me that they do not provide visa to those whose spouses are not domiciled in the US, which freaked me out a little but I guess it's just an official statement because later the asked me to explain our plans, aka plans to move to the US to resume my husband's domicile. Here's my answer for your reference:
I told him that my husband is actively applying for jobs in the US currently and he just had an interview with this one company. I gave him the emails between my husband and the company he applied job at as long as other job applications. My husband also wrote an domicile explanation letter about the situation. The CO's fine with that.
The Affidavit Support Problem:
My husband lives in Hong Kong ever since he started his PHd program in 2013. He didn't have to pay the federal tax for the past few years as he was a student. The consulate staff at the registration got super confused when they couldn't find his tax return forms. Even the CO said my husband made a mess on the affidavit support.. which made my heart dropped. But it's all good after I showed them my husband's income statement, my income statement and our savings.
Overall speaking the staff are helpful and the CO was real nice.
Hope this helps and good luck on all of your interviews!
