Hi, everybody!
Today I finally got the interview at the consulate in Naples...
A beautiful experience, everything was done in a simple and organized way.
My appointment was at 9.30, but I arrived at 8.15, they told me to wait but not much. After 10 minutes they called me and let me in – checked my handbag, took my mobile phone and the electronic clock (it is a pedometer) which I always wear.
Then I went up to the second floor, and there were already 3-4 people waiting, a couple, a family with baby.
I had the n.6, but I didn't wait long and they called me to show the documents. The young officer at the counter asked me if I preferred to speak Italian, and of course yes!
At the beginning he took my passport and photos, he registered the prints of both hands and asked me the date of the wedding.
Then he examined all the originals of the documents, marriage, if I had already been married and previous divorce, birth certificate, criminal records and pending charges, and in the meantime he checked the computer. I was very organized, the documents were in a package, separated into folders with labels (to find them immediately), and for each of them I had the original and a copy.
He didn't ask for the DS260 Confirmation, nor my husband's Affidavit of Support, so I asked: don't you need them? But he replied that he had found all of our data in the PC right away. He just asked me something about if I was working and if I was unemployed and wanted to find a job in the US. I answered: of course I have a job, but in Italy! But considering my age I should retire in 1-2 years. She asked me if I see my husband often, I answered yes.
In the end, he delivered me an instruction memo on the payment to be made before emigrating, and a leaflet on domestic violence.
I waited another 15 minutes and another official called me. Age 45/50, he looked Hispanic, but he spoke really good Italian and was extremely polite. He asked me to swear and took the prints again, but this time only right hand.
He started with some questions about the relationship:
- Since when are you married? 11 years
- How did you two meet? Uh.. ehm... on internet 14 years ago... after in Newark Airport…
- How long has your husband lived in the US? He moved December 2016, since we are married we have lived in Italy.
- How come, what profession does he do? He's an architect and moved to New York for work, but even before that he had often worked abroad.
- Have you always been resident in Italy? Yes
- What was the longest time you were in the US? About 3 months
I wondered that maybe he wanted to know if I had exceeded 3 months (who knows what they see on their computers? better to be transparent at most!) and I told him that 3 years ago I had requested a B1/B2 Visa, so I could be more free commuting.
He asked me if I had brought it (it's on my old passport) yes, I have here, and I showed it to him. He told me, I have to cancel this B2, but you don't need it anymore because WE APPROVE YOUR VISA!
I asked for some information, he told me in a couple of days a temporary visa will arrive, then within 6 months I will receive the Green Card.
Can I know how long? (I had heard from other couples that the first GC is valid for 2 years only). He said, we give it for 10 years, because you are married for a long time.
