Let me tell you the story of the interview:
My fiance arrived this morning to the embassy in Santo Domingo at 6:00am. He said there were between 60-100 people already there waiting. He said that the people were in different groups or lines according to their visa category. Upon entering the embassy, he was #6 in the K1 category.
He was called up to speak to a man who took his birth certificate, police report, passport, and medical results envelope. The man asked him a few questions - Why did I not come to the interview with him? (He answered that I had already been to visit him twice this year and I did not have any more vacation days available at my job. And, besides, we had no idea when the interview was going to be when we planned our visits this year.) How long have he and I been together? (He answered 1 year and 5 months.) Have either of us been married before? (He answered that he has never been married before, but that I have.) Do either of us have any children? (He answered no.) He was then given a ticket # 64 and asked to wait in the waiting area.
He waited for about an hour and 45 minutes before his number 64 was called. He was called to a window and spoke with a younger lady who he says is from USA. She spoke to him in Spanish. She started asking him questions and he said that she was nice. He said he felt comfortable and that she treated him like a friend.
She asked him -
How did we meet? (On a chat site)
Which website did we meet on? (LatinAmericanCupid.com)
What was I looking for? Was I looking for a Dominican? (She found one. Haha) What was he looking for? Was he looking for an American? (No. But we found each other and we have been happy ever since.)
Where did we stay when I visited DR? (The most recent time, we stayed in Santo Domingo, in La Vega with family, and in Puerto Plata, where I live.)
How many days did I stay in the DR? (In January, she stayed 4 days because her original plan to stay 6 days was changed due to bad weather and canceled flights. In November, she stayed 1 week.)
What have I told him about where I live? (She told me that it is a peaceful place. She likes it because it is quiet and her family is nearby.)
Did he know that he would be the only dark skinned person around here? (No. Because she has 2 nieces who are mixed, so we will be 3 morenitos.)
Then she said the million dollar phrase:
Your visa has been approved. Welcome to the United States of America.
She said his passport would arrive in 5-10 days. He asked if he could come pick it up earlier and she said no.
I was surprised that she didn't ask him for ANY evidence. We prepared a file with everything; divorce documents, affidavit of support, IRS transcripts, pictures, boarding passes, every page of my passport, letter of employment from my job, his receipt for the engagement rings, Christmas cards, etc.
She did not ask to see anything. He left the embassy right before 11:00 am.

¿Cuántos dÃas estuve en la República Dominicana? (En enero, se quedó 4 dÃas porque su plan original de quedarse 6 dÃas cambió porque le retrasaron unos vuelos. En noviembre, se quedó 1 semana).
¿Qué le he dicho sobre dónde vivo? (Ella me dijo que es un lugar tranquilo. Le gusta porque es tranquilo y su familia está cerca).
¿SabÃa que serÃa el único moreno por aquÃ? (No. Porque ella tiene 2 sobrinas que son indias como yo, asà que seremos 3 ).
Luego dijo la frase esperada:
Su visa ha sido aprobada. Bienvenido a los Estados Unidos de América.
Ella dijo que su pasaporte llegarÃa en 5-10 dÃas. Él le preguntó si podÃa venir a recogerlo antes y ella dijo que no.
Me sorprendió que ella no le pidiera NINGUNA evidencia. Preparamos un archivo con todo; documentos de divorcio, declaración jurada de apoyo, transcripciones del IRS, fotos, tarjetas de embarque, cada página de mi pasaporte, carta de empleo de mi trabajo, su recibo de los anillos de compromiso, tarjetas de Navidad, etc.
Ella no pidió ver nada. Salió de la embajada casi a las 11:00.
