Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam | Review on November 20, 2019: | MattW83
Rating: | Review Topic: K1 Visa
Our interview was scheduled for 8:05am and everything was as described by other reviewers up to the interview itself.
After reading the last review for this consulate I decided to be present for the interview and I'm glad I was. It was not as easy as I've seen reported by others, and I wonder if the Texas fraud ring had something to do with it. Neither my fiance nor myself had ever been married before. We were very well prepared. The CO would not let me stand at the window for the interview until she asked me a couple of questions near the end. She would not allow my fiance to interview in vietnamese and sent the interpreter away entirely. Fortunately my fiance was prepared and did well.
We saw 2 or 3 pink approvals the whole time we were there - everyone else got blue. We also got a blue paper requiring a different visa photo, even though it was already accepted with the I-129f. We got a new one and went back in the afternoon, and we were approved. They said wait 2 weeks for the visa, so I hope that means we're done.
My fiance is in a Facebook group with other K1 hopefuls, and zero of them were approved the day we went. I think there were 18 of them total. One had her (Vietnamese-American) fiance with her. They too got blue and we didn't see them later that afternoon.
I don't know how it would have gone for my fiance if I wasn't there, and I'm very glad I made the choice to attend. It was not the perfunctory interview I've read so much about, and our case was pretty straightforward, with myself living with my fiance in Vietnam for more than a year. I'd say if you can afford the time, go to the interview. The cost is minor compared to what you could face with a refusal.
This website has been an invaluable resource for us. Thank you!
