My husband and I arrived at 6:30 am and everyone was just standing across the street in no particular order. You will hear constant whistles from the guards since they don’t like cars stopping to drop people off or people standing on the embassy side of the street until they call you. It would be better if they just had a first come first serve line but oh well.

At about 6:50 am they called people. We were standing on the side and I saw everyone rushing so we rushed over to the line haha the guards start to speak on a microphone and say “only applicants in line” in Hindi or something like that, but if you are there with you’re spouse do not get worried and think you can’t go. I had my US passport out and I said I am the petitioner for my husband and they let me go with him.

After that they will let groups of people go through security...you might wait a little...do not take any electronics, religious knives ( which happened with people infront of us) your medical cd, big bags (you can take small bags and purses, but we didn’t want to risk anything so we just held our wallets and binders. Anywho you will then walk in and go to the very end of the room where your interview takes place. They will check your papers and give you a number which will show on a tv infront of you like at the DMV. You then sit down and they make you keep moving down the seats every time it empties out. Anyways there will be people coming around to help you organize your papers, but we had to call someone over because they weren’t coming to our row so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Organize originals:
Passport
Interview letter
Ds260 with 2 photos
Birth certificate
Marriage certificate
Police certificate
Medical envelope (do not open)

They didn’t ask for copies, but we took copies just Incase

Then your number will come up. I went to the window with my husband and they asked me if I was the petitioner and took his originals. He ripped open his medical envelope and took his passport ...came back and asked how long have we been married and confirmed his mom didn’t have a maiden name. Then he asked me when I arrived in India and when I will be leaving. He then gave my husband back the interview letter and a paper on domestic violence and told him if he is approved he will receive another paper stating approved and said ok wait for your number.

We waited a bit, but you can see everyone interviewing infront of you. Each approval you see is nerve racking and you just pray it goes that well for your partner. Some interviews are longer than others.

My husband was finally called and I went up with him. She swore him in by raising his right hand and then took his finger prints. She asked if I was the petitioner and said to have a seat and she will call me if she needs anything. I started panicking haha they asked him 15 questions and they all seemed to connect. We took tonssss of paper work. 3 big binders full and a wedding album haha (I do want to say that my husband and I applied for the fiancé visa in 2010...he was denied for not having enough proof so I didn’t want that happening again. We then broke up 2012 and came back together 2017...just stating our history) so anyways these were the questions

1: who is calling you
2: so how did you meet your wife?
3: have you ever applied for for the K1 visa?
4: why did it take you so long to apply for the spouse visa?
5: where does your wife live ?
6: what does your spouse do?
7: what do you do?
8: how did we meet?
9. when did you get married and how?
10. . After marriage how many times did she come visit you? (4 times)
11 Do your parents like her
12 Did her family go to the wedding? Parents
13. Why couldn’t they come ?
14. Did you go on a honeymoon ?

She then said we are approved and gave him some papers and said congratulations and said your visa will come in 3-5 business days. Then I ran over to thank her but she was already gone hehe I hurt into tears ...this has been such a long hard year and a half and our first step is finally done. I know there will be more interviews but so happy my husband finally gets to come to my country like I have come to his ❤️ While thing took 2 hours.

Good luck everyone ! Just be honest and smile! Nerves will get you, but just act like you’re talking to someone you know. They just want to make sure you are genuine. Take your proof even if they don’t ask for it. Study questions but don’t memorize. You already know the answers but just cover little things if that makes sense. Anyways this is really long ...hope it helps some of you ...and it really did case to case basis
