We went for our green card interview yesterday.
I thought I was going to be really nervous but I was more exited than anything!
Our appointment was at 12. We got there 5 min before the check in time and went in only 15 min late.
We were greeted by a lovely older gentleman who invited us in to his office(cube like) and had us do an oath.
He was very friendly, not intimidating or mean at all!
He confirmed our identities and status by asking for our passports and my husbands social. He seemed to be looking over our I-130 briefly and so confirmed our full names and date of birth.
He then jokingly told us that he's going to ask me some embarrassing questions, and proceeded to ask the questions that you were suppose to answer on one of your forms about " have you ever planned espionage, done illegal human trafficking, been involved in terrorist activities etc". I thought it was pretty funny questions to ask but understandably important.
He asked for my I-94, which I incorrectly submitted with my application by the instruction of a lawyer, so not surprisingly it was lost along the line but thank goodness I had a copy of it in my original application and he said that was more than efficient.
I must of had brought 200 papers with, of evidence of our joint info, recent pay stubs for my husband etc. Even though the evidence of our joint accounts and old tax forms from our initial application were efficient I gave him a copy of our recent tax filing for 2007 and that was it! He didn't need anything else.
He then proceeded to return to me all the photos I submitted with our application.
He said, I don't doubt your relationship and am going to approve your status right now. He didn't even ask how we met or anything! He stamped my passport with a temporary permanent status I-551 valid for 1 yr and we thanked him and my husband and I went to Windsor, Canada to have a celebratory lunch at the only outside seating restaurant we could find, Peppers! He said we'll have my green card in 2 weeks.
I was so happy I could cry. It's such a relief and the freedom of being able to travel to any where now is phenomenal. We can't wait to make our first trip to another country again!
I wish I remember the gentleman's name but I think his last name is Pao or Dao. Thank you so much for making our experience so lovely and stress free! You have no idea how much your help and kindness means to us or both our families!
