Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

The wife and I had our interview yesterday (09/05/2019) even though there was a pending hurricane in the area. We frequently checked the USCIS page to ensure the offices would not be close and the case transferred. The office is actually located in Durham and not Raleigh as per this dropdown selection box. The drive time from our apartment to the location was approximately 2 hours because of weather concerns, so we departed with plenty of time to ensure on time arrival. As always plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment time. There is a security check point to go through priror to being userd to the second floor for a waiting room. There is also a ticketing checking-in portion after the security check point.

Preparation for the interview...
Once we received the notification for the AOS interview, we went down the checklist of items usually required by USCIS. We also included a few pictures...in all about 20 from the date of marriage to the date of the interview. At the interview they asked us to provide any and all government documentation we have been issued...this included her DMV ID card, her military benefits card, her foreign passport and foreign country ID card. They also asked for the same of me. Prior to the interview we really just stuck to what was on the NOA for the interview. The Officer has the entire packet from beginning to of the K1 process and does not have time to review old material. I recommend to stick to the letter and not overwhelm the officer...Officer Williams did say that I can provide him any additional information to bolster the packet if I wanted...but there was plenty of evidence.

At the interview...
Officer Williams asked if my spouse spoke English, which she did not, so he called and interpreter for her and we had a 4 way conversation. The officer then began to go through the I485 application and ask a few "disqualifying" questions. I urge you to practice with your spouse the questions and answers prior to the interview because we were asked a few. In all the interview process was rather fast. The use of a translator did slow things down a bit, but most of the questions were right out of the application. Officer Williams did ask a few questions of me..
1. How did we meet? When did we meet? How did we meet?
2. Have I been previously married?
3. How long?
4. Why did it end?
5. How many children do I have? Whom do they live with?
6. When was the first time we met?
7. When was the second time I visited her?
