My fiance and I followed every rule, filed everything on time, paid all our fees, and scheduled his interview for August 16th. Everything was falling into place... until the interview. As he showed up to the Santiago Embassy, the officer tried to direct him to the "immigrant visa" window instead of the "nonimmigrant visa" window for the K1 visa. My fiance and the officer went back and forth for about 30 minutes before the officer finally called the office, and confirmed that he should go to "nonimmigrant." So my fiance entered the office, took a number, and sat for 3 hours. No one called his name; no one called his number. Eventually, an officer at the desk called him by name and said, "We accidentally scheduled 9 interviews today, but only have room for 6... so we aren't going to take your case today. We will email you when we can see you. You can leave now." Yeah, I was pretty pissed off. Our response was to email or call them every day until they rescheduled him. A few days later, they scheduled him for August 30th. Thankfully, he has enough family in Santiago that he was able to stay in the region for an extra 2 weeks, as he lives in Aysen. Anyways, when the actual interview came around, it went fairly smooth. They looked at the financial paperwork, asked how we met, and approved him- they did not look at any of the physical evidence of relationship that we had prepared. The whole interview was in Spanish despite his proficiency in English. After he left, they called him and realized they forgot to take his fingerprints, so he had to return to the Embassy. The whole process was frustrating due to the lack of organization that the Embassy presented, but the actual interview was calm and the officer treated my fiance well.
