My interview was scheduled for 8am, and I arrived at the building by 7:50 and was allowed to go straight through.

The lovely B looked through my packet, took fingerprints from both hands, and noted some items that she said the consular officer may need that were missing. At that strange I was mildly panicking internally, but then she sent me to go sit and wait for the officer to call me up for the interview. Thats when i really started to panic.

I sat waiting for maybe 55 minutes, at one point I was so worried about being denied that B called me over, gave me some tissues and sweets and a pep talk that if they need anything else it is just paperwork and they know that my husband and I are legally in a bone fide marriage. This helped me calm down.

Then I was called over to window 2 for my interview. The officer was nice enough, though i did not catch her name. I took the oath and gave my right hand finger prints. She then asked me the following questions?
- how did you and your husband meet?
- how did you fund your studies on your J1 visa? (assuming this was to satisfy i wasn't subject to the two year residency restriction which i was not)
- is your husband here in New Zealand with you?
- what does your husband do for work?
- where will you be living when you get back to the US?
- how do you feel about living with your mother-in-law? (i couldn't tell if this was an attempt at small talk but this one had me a little stumped)

After that I was told 'your visa is approved and your passport should be back with you in about a week'. I was so shocked I do not really remember what happened next but all that matters is it was a success and the officer did not ask for additional documents.
