Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Adjusting from a K-1. Showed up about 15 minutes early. Went through security downstairs, and up the elevator to the second floor. Checked in at the desk on the second floor and sat down to wait.

We were called in about 10 minutes after our appointment time. We sat down and were sworn in.

The officer took my husband's (petitioner) photo and fingerprint. He went through the basics of the application, asking my husband to verify that his name, address, social security #, stuff like that. The officer explained to my husband that his green card will have the name on his birth certificate, instead of the name on his passport (one name difference, he was born in a different country than his passport is from and the naming conventions are different). He also asked to see my husband's old passports. The officer then verified the answers to all the check box questions.

He went over my husband's immigration history (was an F-1 student and then worked on OPT for awhile). He said he usually goes over all of a person's entrances and exits to the country but because my husband had gone back and forth so much (thank you, ESTA), he didn't want to lol. He asked us who was more romantic (not me) and asked my husband the story of our relationship. He seemed interested in a 5 month breakup we had about a year into our (now) four year relationship, but never said much else about it once he got the basic facts. He then asked for proof of our intertwined lives and, since we've only been married four months and some change, we handed over photos, paperwork that added him onto my apartment lease, a benefit statement from my employer that showed him on my insurance, him as a beneficiary on my HSA, an Xcel bill with him on it, screen shots showing him as being the beneficiary of my Southwest Companion Pass, and itineraries from 3 trips we took together.

The only question the officer asked about any of this was what types of dogs we had from one of the photos. He said he'd send out a letter if he needed anything else, which he didn't think he would, and that was it. The appointment was about 40 minutes and his status changed to "New Card has Been Ordered" later that night.
