Long post alert!
Overall stressful experience. I knew the wait was going to be long, but I still managed to grossly underestimate the strain involved.
Arrived at the embassy at 5:30am in time for my 7am appointment. We were divided into immigrant and non-immigrant queues and had to go through possibly a million security checks, which ended with a Nigerian lady taking our finger prints. Then commenced the wait. Look around when you arrive. If there are lots of elderly people around, then bad news for you because they’ll attend to them first irrespective of when they arrived. This is reasonable, but can’t deny that it’s tiring standing for so long. For the interview proper, there were 2 CO’s initially - a black American male and a Caucasian male. The black dude seemed more brutal cos he denied 2 of the first 4 interviewees he encountered. Crazy. Once I’d waited for so long, and my number still seemed far away, I went to the bathroom to wait and break from the monotony of seeing people being denied or approved. Soon, I heard my number being called from inside the bathroom, then my name. I ran out. Alas there was a new CO who presumably just joined. She was a pretty youngish looking African American. She made me swear the oath and asked about 4 questions.
Who’s calling for you?
How y’all met
What job does she do?
Finally she asked for pics of us
That was it. She approved and said the visa would be ready in a week thereabouts.
Advice-
1. prepare to be stressed except you’re lucky to be one of the first few to interview
2. practice the common questions and answers well. Don’t mind the people who say it’s a walk in the park. Prepare! You’ve been waiting for this for long.
3. Concision is key. Don’t elaborate on answers needlessly. It’ll invite more answers and scrutiny
4. Have a snack before the interview
5. Pray!
