Atlanta GA | Review on June 10, 2019: | Linkie
Rating: | Review Topic: Adjustment of Status
Arrival:
So, to start with, traffic was slightly bad so I'd recommend to prepare for the worse.
Parking spaces were not much better, as they were very limited at the USCIS field office...
Before entering:
To avoid the possible hassle, we left our phones in the car, but later we did notice some people whom had brought their phones but it was switched off.
We brought a big business-style messenger bag containing all our documents and our accordion folder.
Security:
We actually arrived one hour early, but we were able to get through the airport-style security smoothly and reached the reception/waiting area.
Reception/Appointment:
We had to wait another 20 minutes before queing to get our number from the receptionist (they only give out your number if your interview appointment is within 30minutes).
We didn't queue for too long, perhaps 10 minutes?
The receptionist requested for our I 797c document (appointment details) and my ID (passport).
He handed us our number, and instructed us to go to the second floor.
We decided to take the stairs, by the time we sat down, I remember glancing at the wall clock, 9.43...
2nd floor:
The room was separated into two sections, ceremony, and appointment/interviews.
We noticed a lot of the people that were there for their interview seemed to have a lawyer or interpreter present.
It was about 10 to 20 minutes, before our name was called out.
Interview:
Our number was called out.
We followed the consular to a private office room. After exchanging friendly polite "how are you" stuff, we had to stand up and swear to the "tell the truth, the whole truth blah blah" oath.
Afterwards he told us how he was going to process the interview.
He said he was going to take in turns in asking questions, to confirm answers on the applications we sent. He also asked us questions about each other.
For e.g. what's your spouse's name, how many times have they married, where were they born, and etc.
They then asked us both about very standard routine type questions, that I expected them to ask. Like, when did we get married. How did we get married. Etc. Etc.
They requested for the I 797c document, proof of our marriage being genuine, my ID, my spouse's ID, photos, and etc.
We felt like the interview went smoothly.
Unfortunately they didn't tell us if we were accepted, but informed us that they will go through our application asap and will be notified within a month and also that they will contact us directly if they need anything.
We also handed documents that were listed on the checklist, they said our original application had everything needed, but they took it from us regardless just in case.
My spouse really clicked with the consular, I'm very grateful that I had such a charismatic social partner by my side...
